Fort Worth Police Officer Hit While Responding to Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-35W

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Fort Worth police officer was taken to the hospital after being hit by a car while responding to a crash involving a tractor-trailer fuel spill Monday morning.

The wreck has the I-35 west lanes shut down.

Fort Worth police said the initial crash happened around 2:00 a.m. on southbound I-35 near the Sycamore School Road exit. A tractor-trailer hit a guardrail in a single-vehicle accident, according to a statement.

Some bystanders managed to get the driver to safety the truck caught fire and spilled fuel on the highway.

After the crash, first responders shut down the southbound lanes at Alta Mesa Boulevard.

Around 5:30 a.m., a driver plowed through the scene and hit an officer who was working the initial crash.

Officials said it will take several hours to remove the wreckage. The condition of the officer is unknown.
