FOX NEWS – (WBAP/KLIF) – The FBI says a 46-year old Pakistani man with ties to Iran’s government tried to carry out a political assassination targeting “government officials” in the United States. Fox News reports this case was investigated several weeks ahead of the Pennsylvania gunman who tried to assassinate former President Trump at a campaign rally.
Officials say Asif Merchant flew to New York City and worked with a “hit man” to carry out the murders in late August or early September. Federal prosecutors say high-ranking American officials were targeted, potentially including Trump.
Court documents allege the hit men Merchant is reported to have tried to hire were undercover FBI agents.
The story continues to develop.
