FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Fort Worth police released details about the shooting of a man armed with a long gun accused of car jacking a driver during a chase Thursday evening.

Sergeant Leah Wagner said the chase began around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Hazel Drive and Long Avenue when officers were notified about a stolen car.

Investigators said the suspect drove recklessly through several neighborhoods, rammed a police vehicle before officers used spikes to stop him.

The man crashed the car in a parking lot near the intersection of Northwest 28th Street and McKinley Avenue. That’s when police said the man carjacked someone in an SUV while pointing a gun at the driver.

Investigators said several officers fired at him when the man ignored commands to drop the weapon.

The man allegedly got out of the vehicle, fired his weapon in the direction of a business and officers fired at him again before he complied with their orders and was arrested.

Chief Neil Noakes said the situation put civilian lives in danger.

“This is not anything we ever want to see in the streets of Fort Worth. Innocent civilians that were near the area and residents who live in this community know this happened in their area. It’s unsettling…it’s scary,” he said.

Officers on scene performed medical aid and the unidentified suspect is hospitalized in stable condition.
