City of Coppell Asks Residents to be on Alert After Alligator Spotted Near Denton Creek

DENTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The City of Coppell is warning residents to be on alert after an alligator was spotted in the northeastern portion of the town.

Officials confirmed on Wednesday the gator has been seen in small ponds and tributaries around Denton Creek. They’re asking everyone to avoid swimming, fishing or getting near water in that area.

They’re also reminding residents that anyone caught feeding a wild alligator will be hit with a misdemeanor charge that comes with a $500 fine.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife department said if you hear an alligator hiss, that means you’re too close.

They want everyone to maintain a safe distance and report the encounter to the TPWD. Alligators are regulated animals and can only be relocated by Texas Park and Wildlife officials.
