MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A registered sex offender has been charged in connection to the kidnapping of a young girl in Mesquite earlier this month.
Mesquite police said a child who had run away from her home last Thursday was approached by a man in a red minivan near the intersection of Gross Road and Ridgeview Street.
Investigators said 53-year-old Doyle Tipton offered the girl a ride but he ignored her directions and began to drive the child into Dallas City limits.
Tipton allegedly began to touch her inappropriately and brief struggle ensued. Police said he then removed the child from the car along I-20 in Dallas.
The girl ran to Dallas Fire Station #40 and got some help from firefighters. Police used traffic surveillance video to find Tipton and arrest him.
He’s charged with aggravated kidnapping.
