WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn led a republican response to President Joe Biden’s executive order significantly limiting asylum seekers when the border is overwhelmed.
Cornyn, surrounded by several of his colleagues, questioned the timing of the decision.
“He’s waited until today to actually do what he calls effective actions to secure the border,” Cornyn said. “My question to him is why did you wait.”
Senate republicans say the president doing this in an election year shows he is not serious.
“They’ve opened the front door and when the room gets too crowded they open the back door,” Cornyn said.
Cornyn referred to the action as a ‘shell game’ adding that the Biden Administration is not serious about it.
The White House has long called on Congress to come up with solutions.
Democrats say a recent bipartisan effort months ago failed because of former President Donald Trump not wanting to see it passed.
