McLendon-Chisolm Officials Tell Residents to Prepare for Possible Evacuation

ROCKWALL COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Residents in the the city of McLendon-Chisolm in Rockwall County are on notice to be ready to evacuate.

The move comes as city officials monitor the status of the dam in the Chisolm Crossing subdivision.

The warning affects those who live on Fireside Drive, Parade Point, Granite Ridge Road, Highwater Crossing and Stampede Run.

Residents who live downstream on Brushy Creek are also on notice.

McClendon-Chisolm Mayor Bryan McNeal took to Facebook Sunday evening to provide more details about why the situation is so concerning.

“The dam is having ground shifting and has moved three feet in 24 hours. Myself, Councilmember Day and Mayor Pro Tem Tucker will be with the fire chief and soil specialists in the morning at the dam to check the situation,” he said.

Mayor McNeal said he’s monitoring the situation with the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management and the McClendon-Chisolm Fire Department.

An official evacuation order has not been issued at this time. However, if the order is issued, the Rockwall County OEM will send a Nixle Emergency Alert.

Those who are not signed up can text the keyword “RCOEM” to 888777 to sign up for the alerts.

Officials urge residents to pack up their pets, pet items, important files and hard drives, clothing, toiletries, medications along with household and car keys.

The City of Mclendon-Chisholm will meet with the Kaufman-Van Zandt-Rockwall Soil and Water Conservation District at 9:30 AM Monday to discuss the dam’s status.
