The Valley View Volunteer Fire Department Says The Town Warning Siren Did Not Sound Saturday

(WBAP/KLIF) Valley View – The Valley View Volunteer Fire Department says the towns’ warning siren malfunctioned Saturday during the tornado that killed seven people and injured many others.

In a facebook post, the department said crews were warned about a possible tornado in an area Southwest of Valley View. The post went on to say “AT THIS TIME, V-F-D MEMBERS READIED THE OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN FOR THE CITY OF VALLEY VIEW. UPON ACTIVATION OF THE SIREN, IT MALFUNCTIONED, AND DID NOT SET OFF AN AUDIBLE ALERT.”

The department then issued a social media post telling the public to take immediate shelter. A wiring issue was later blamed for the sirens failure and it has since been repaired.

The system is reportedly an outdoor warning system, meant to alert people who are outside, however it is not designed to be heard indoors.
