Mansfield Man Sentenced to Life for Murder of Pregnant Girlfriend

A Mansfield man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2020 murder of his pregnant girlfriend.

32-year-old Maurice Kelso Smith received an automatic sentence without the possibility of parole for the crime.

His girlfriend, Darionne Burley, was pregnant with twin boys at the time of the murder.

According to trial testimony, Smith shot Burley in the back of the head in June of 2020 just one hour after they left a Fort Worth Waffle House.

He then drove to Mansfield where he robbed a woman at gunpoint of her vehicle.

A short time later, police found him at his home attempting to clean the stolen car and destroy evidence of the murder.

Smith had assaulted Burley in early June and was using drugs heavily at the time.
