Texas Baptist Men Provide Panhandle Relief

(WBAP/KLIF) — As the Texas wildfires burn, relief organizations are rushing to provide aid. Texas Baptist Men (TBM) have organized a relief effort to assist residents in the Texas Panhandle who have lost everything. The humanitarian group has boots on the ground in Fritch, TX, to assist victims affected by the devastating wildfires.

According to TBM’s David Wells, the Fritch Command Center is a mobile office to manage resources such as food, water, equipment, and volunteers. About 100 homes have been devastated by the wildfires, which leaves victims with losing everything. Sometimes the only relief effort TBM can perform is just clearing the concrete slab where the owner’s home once stood.

Wells says TBM has been assessing damage and determining the scope of the relief effort they can provide. The response is currently 30 to 40 members and could reach up to 100 volunteers by Monday, depending on the success of fire suppression efforts. The crews are mainly based out of Amarillo and Lubbock, however, a North Texas contingent is on stand-by.

Texas Baptist Men expects the relief operation to last for two or three weeks, possibly longer if the fire continues to rage out of control.
