The spill was reported bright red by noon on Sunday, with city officials investigating and reported tracing the issue back to a main wastewater discharge lline from a car wash, and the soap involved, red. The car wash is located near the Floyd Branch Creek near Arapaho Road and West Shore Drive.
Officials said they blocked the creek and pumped out 21-thousand gallons of water, and say there was no threat or damage. The detergent, which was deemed to be non-hazardous, was cleaned out of the creek and the water was back to normal by Monday morning. Still, fish in the creek could be affected by the soap spill, officials said. The city of Richardson reports it notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, which regulates incidents such as the spill reported as a non-hazardous soap.
