FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Legal fallout from the explosion the Sandman Signature Hotel in downtown Fort Worth on January 8th continues.
More civil lawsuits have been filed, including on behalf of the woman left in critical condition.
27-year-old Maite Karen Lopez Ontiveros, a Musume restaurant employee, suffered severe burns from the blast and has been upgraded to severe condition.
Lopez Ontiveros suffered burns across 23.1% of her body, six broken ribs, upper back damage, a shattered right arm, kidney lacerations, punctured lungs, blood clots and loss of circulation to her legs, according to the lawsuit.
The filing alleges that she and other staff weren’t given proper instruction and protection when the smell of natural gas permeated the building.
The suit has been filed against Atmos Energy, Sandman Hotel Group, Musume restaurant and Northland Management Corporation, according to our media partner WFAA TV.
Like the others, it accuses the companies of negligence, gross negligence and vicarious liability.
There are at least three law firms representing clients who said they were impacted by the explosion.
Houston-based Zehl & Associates announced this week its representing eight hotel employees who were seriously injured in the blast, according to a press release.
That lawsuit names Atmos Energy, Sandman Management Inc., Northland Developments and Rock Libations Group, the company that operates Musume.
At least 21 people were injured in the blast. Although natural gas is suspected, the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
