DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – If bracing for the first blast of intense and very serious cold weather approaching North Texas is not enough, the WBAP Morning News Team offers you a glimpse into the madness caused by a building-wide fire alarm check, featuring loud audio tones and flashing strobe lights that refuse to turn off. And so we begin the show with lights triggering migraines at worst; irritability at the least. So far, 48 minutes, and counting.
Just before debuting the Wednesday morning show at 5am, veteran newswoman Carla Marion clambers atop the anchor desk, seeking to tape a piece of paper over the offending strobe. Just like the adage “the news never stops”, neither does this strobe or Carla’s fortitude! Hal Jay and Monty Cook cheer her on, offering advice on engineering design and the capabilities of scotch tape.
Testing of our downtown Dallas building’s fire alarm continues day after day, but this morning, with an enduring catch – even the Dallas Fire Department is having trouble switching off the strobe lights and oddball ear-piercing audio tones, with a building-wide team now actively working to fix the issue. Could be worse, we’re told…other floors have the flashing strobe AND the alarms blaring. If you hear odd audio alarms in our broadcast this morning, “that’s the story…behind the story”. Happy Monday!
