Back in 2021, the city of Austin launched a safety intitative after a deadly shootingkilled one person and wounded 14 more. The Safer Sixth Street initiative provided for surveillance cameras around that entertainment district, a critical incident training program was created for bars, and a staging area set up to help first responders in their response time. The city is still seeking additional ways to keep visitors to this popular entertainment district safe.
