ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Arlington ISD community is mourning the death of a student who was fatally hit by a car while crossing a busy intersection after school this week.

10-year-old Liyah-Grace Holsey was attempting to cross from the north side of Sublett Road to the south side when she was hit by two cars that were traveling eastbound lanes of Sublett near Mary Moore Elementary School just before 4 p.m. Thursday.

First responders rushed the 5th grader to the hospital where she died of her injuries. Arlington Police said both drivers stayed at the scene and are cooperating with authorities.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time.

Arlington ISD issued a statement that read in part:

“Liyah-Grace was a wonderful student who loved to sing so much that she joined the choir and never missed a practice. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.”

Additional school counselors were on hand on Friday to comfort students and staff.
