ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Ahead of Veteran’s Day, some North Texans will get a glimpse of what will be soon be the home of the first National Medal of Honor Museum.
It will be located in Arlington’s entertainment district just east of Globe Life Field.
Since its creation in 1861, only 3500 medals have ever been awarded and only 65 recipients are still alive.
The medal is the United State’s highest award for military valor in action and represents courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship and patriotism.
The museum’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications Rebecca Rodriguez said the build’s design is purposeful.
“The museum is square that is supported by five pillars that represent the values. These pillars are steel. The actual museum is suspended by these pillars,” she said.
Patrons who walk through the exhibits will experience stories from a soldier’s point of view.
“This is not a museum about history. This is not a military museum. It’s biographical. It’s going to be a museum about people. If you talk to our recipients and down to the one they will tell you that they were just doing what they were there to do,” said Rodriguez.
The museum is hosting a media open house at the construction site at 10 a.m. on Friday.
NMHM Foundation President and CEO Chris Cassidy, a former NASA Astronaut and Navy Seal, will be in attendance.
The museum opens in Spring of 2025.
The Media Open House will be part of a busy Veterans Day weekend. There will be a series of events featuring Medal of Honor recipients, the Dallas Cowboys, Black Rifle Coffee Co., and other community leaders and supporters.
The weekend wraps up Sunday, Nov. 12 with 16 Medal of Honor recipients taking the field together at AT&T Stadium for a special halftime tribute during the Dallas Cowboys’ Salute to Service matchup with the New York Giants.
