(WBAP/KLIF) — With no laws passed on school vouchers or teacher pay raises, the governor calls another special session.
Governor Greg Abbott praised the Texas Legislature for passing COVID-19 protections and increased penalties for human smuggling. However, he elected to call a fourth Special Session to pass bills on increased funding for strategic border barriers and school vouchers. The governor says that school vouchers will not take away funding away from public schools.
After claiming he was close to brokering a deal with Republican leaders in the Texas House, Abbott is hoping to push his school voucher dream across the finish line, as he has coupled school funding and teacher pay raises into the mix. The 4th Special Legislative Session agenda includes discussion on bills to address illegal immigration and school safety. The session began on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
