ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Several North Texas school districts canceled classes on Friday to allow students and staff to attend a celebratory parade in Arlington’s entertainment district in honor of the Texas Rangers first-ever world series win.
Arlington, Mansfield, Everman, Grand Prairie, Crowley, Kennedale and Irving ISDs are all closed.
Arlington ISD will play a special part in the festivities. The Rangers asked the district’s marching band students to perform at the parade.
The district said its coordinating students from six of its high schools to make up one combined band.
“We are thrilled about this opportunity for our students,” said Wurtz. “They are so talented and everyone will know that after they see them perform at the parade.”
The parade kicks off at 12:15 pm off of Cowboys Way, will make its way up AT&T Way then will turn east on Road to Six Flags before ending at Globe Life Field.
After the parade, a 30-minute program featuring players and coaches will be held outside Globe Life Field on the North Plaza.
For anyone else that needs an excuse to get out of school or work to attend the parade, Arlington Mayor Jim Ross provided a humorous approach.
