UPDATE: (12:10 p.m., October 27, 2023): Law enforcement authorities in Maine say they’ve found a note at a home that Maine mass shooting suspect Robert Card was known to frequent. The note, which was found on Thursday, was addressed to his son, however police officials have not released the contents of that letter. They did, however, refer to the letter as a suicide note, which officers said did not provide a motive for the shooting.
Maine Governor Janet Mills confirmed Thursday morning that 18 people were killed and 13 injured in the mass shootings in Lewiston Wednesday night.
Authorities are still searching for 40-year-old Robert Card of Bowdoin.
Maine State Police have issued a shelter for Lewiston, Lisbon and Bowdoin as the manhunt continues.
He’s considered armed and dangerous.
President Joe Biden and Governor Mills have ordered all U.S. flags and State of Maine flags to be lowered to half staff for the next five days.
(WBAP/KLIF) Lewiston Maine – At least 22 people are dead and dozens more injured in a mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine Wednesday evening.
Authorities said a man with a rifle reportedly fired on people at a bowling alley and a bar.
Lewiston is a city of around 37,000 about 30 miles north of Portland. Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque urged people in his city, Lewiston and the surrounding area to shelter in place.
“It will take a while, you know, something like this doesn’t just get solved overnight and nobody can expect it to. But we’ve got a really strong community and we’ve overcome a lot and we’ll overcome this,” he said.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers are searching for a person of interest who has been identified as 40-year-old Robert Card.
Card is reported to be a firearms instructor at a U.S. Army Reserve training facility in Maine and was committed to a mental health facility for two weeks over the summer, according to a state police bulletin.
The bulletin did not provide specific details about his treatment or condition.
The bulletin, reviewed by The Associated Press, was being circulated to law enforcement officials after the shootings.
Area schools have cancelled classes Thursday.
Authorities are expected to update the public at 9:30 Thursday morning.
This is a developing story.
