Dallas Police Officer and K9 Injured in Overnight Shootout, Suspect Has Died

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Dallas police officer and a K9 were injured in an overnight shootout with a suspect in an earlier shooting in Pleasant Grove.

The incident started just after midnight in the 9300 block of Briggs Street near Cypress Avenue.

Dallas police said the incident began with a 911 call around 9:45 p.m. Thursday about a man who allegedly shot his mother and sister.

A second call came into 911 dispatch about a man who had blood on him who was knocking on doors.

The department said after the shooting, the suspect ran into the woods near Cypress and Briggs. Air 1 was called in along with the Canine Unit.

Around 2:30 a.m., the officers and his K9 were searching the area when the suspect fired shots on the two of them.

The officer and K9 were hit and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

According to a statement from the Dallas Police Department, a preliminary investigation determined the officer discharged his weapon during the shootout, hitting the suspect.

The suspect reportedly died from his injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
