SWA Plane Fills With Smoke During Flight Forcing Emergency Landing; Evacuation

Havana, Cuba (WBAP/KLIF) – Passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight from Havana, Cuba to Fort Lauderdale were forced to evacuate Sunday morning after smoke filled the cabin shortly after takeoff. Video of the incident was posted to social media. The Dallas-based airline the plane “reportedly experienced bird strikes to an engine and the aircraft’s nose.”

The plane returned to Havana where passengers were evacuated using an inflatable slide. They were then bussed to a terminal where they were put on another flight.

In a statement, Southwest commended the swift, professional actions its pilots and flight attendants, and apologized to passengers fo the inconvenience.
