(WBAP/KLIF) — Denton ISD is getting into the health care business. The school board approved a measure to continue efforts to construct a district-owned Employee & Family Health & Wellness Vlinic.

The district’s Chris Bomberger says the million dollar venture will not require additional funding. According to board member Jim Alexander, the school board voted in favor of building the clinic for a variety of reasons, including employee retention. Potential sites could include any of the district’s vacated buildings, such as the field house at Old Denton High School or Calhoun Middle School.

Bomberger says the clinic would be a great benefit for teachers and staff. The facility could be up and running by August of this year, with the build-out funded by the Workers Compensation Fund. Two of Denton ISD’s biggest competitors in hiring teachers is Frisco ISD and Keller ISD, both of which already operate their own district medical clinic.
