Motive Unclear in Deadly Shooting Outside Lockheed Martin

WHITE SETTLEMENT (WBAP/KLIF) – Police continue to investigate a motive after a man is said to have shot himself inside a vehicle at the gate of the Lockheed Martin facility.

According to the White Settlement Police Department, as officers arrived they determined that a man in his early 60’s was dead inside a car at the employee gate.

Police Chief Chris Cook said all evidence suggests that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while speaking with Lockheed Martin Security team members.

“Based upon statements the man made prior to the shooting, related to looking for a federal law enforcement agency, the White Settlement Police Department extended a large perimeter until an explosive ordinance team could arrive to ensure all items inside the vehicle were deemed safe,” said Chief Cook. “At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Fort Worth Police and Fire Department Bomb Squad notified WSPD that the car and all items inside were determined to be safe.”

A shotgun was recovered from inside the vehicle, but Police believe the shooting to be an isolated incident.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased. A motive is unclear.

“The collaboration with our local, state and federal partners was outstanding,” said Chief Cook. “I want to thank our community, employees at Lockheed, and our law enforcement partners for working alongside our team to ensure we could safely deal with this incident while minimizing community impacts. Our thoughts and prayers go out the decedent’s family and those affected by this tragedy.”
