

New Orleans – WBAP/KLIF) – The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans has cleared the way for the family of a teen who was killed by a Balch Springs police officer four years ago, to move forward with a civil lawsuit against the officer. The court said that Oliver is not protected by qualified immunity.
The officer, Roy Oliver was convicted of murder in the death of 15-year old Jordan Edwards (pictured right) of Mesquite. Oliver fired his weapon into the back of a car full of teens who were driving away from a party in 2017. Edwards was struck in the back of the head.
Oliver was sentenced in 2018 and will be eligible for parole in 2026.
