LISTEN: Ukrainians Bring Culture, Hope to North Texas

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – Ukrainian refugees arriving to North Texas aren’t leaving their culture behind.

During an anti-war rally at Haggard Park in Plano that was held over the weekend, a Ukrainian man who arrived to DFW from Kyiv just weeks ago put on a show for other refugees ad Ukrainian natives in the crowd. He said, through a translator, that singing brings normalcy in a time that’s been everything but.

“I’ll try to re-establish myself to utilize my knowledge in journalism, to utilize my knowledge in music,” he said. “Maybe learn to be a musical teacher.”

He’s staying with his daughter and is taking English classes. He’s been to Dallas plenty of times before, but said this trip is much different.
