DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- With just a few days until Christmas, The Salvation Army of North Texas is urging supporters to donate. Funds raised during the holiday season help The Salvation Army provide year-round support to North Texans combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness.
The Salvation Army of NTX is looking to raise an additional $500,000 by the end of the year.
“This is a critical time of year, as nearly half of our annual raised revenue comes between October and December,” said Christina Cavalier, senior director of community relations and development for The Salvation Army of North Texas. “We are grateful for the generous support of our donors and partners whose support helps us continue to serve, as the need in North Texas is still great.”
The pandemic has put new strains on social service organizations, like The Salvation Army, who have worked nonstop to fulfill heightened requests for help. Need and demand for services have not decreased.
Prior to the pandemic, the region’s largest social services provider was already serving one out of 10 North Texans living at or near the poverty line. Since then, The Salvation Army has more than doubled its impact providing:
More than $9 million in financial assistance to over 30,000 individuals
More than 11.6 million meals
More than 520,000 nights of shelter
Pastoral care to more than 84,000 individuals
At the same time, the continued volatility of the pandemic has hindered fundraising this year. Signature events have been rescheduled for the spring, and the evolution of the virus has made it challenging to recruit bellringers.
“Thousands of people are still struggling to keep food on the table, keep up with rent and mortgage payments, and afford usual household expenses,” said Jay Dunn, managing director for The Salvation Army of North Texas. “A fundraising shortfall could impact our ability to provide services for hardworking families and individuals in 2022.”
Despite the challenges, The Salvation Army is committed to helping hope march on. Donations from the public help provide transformational services for North Texans combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness. Every gift stays local to provide support across Dallas, Tarrant and Ellis, and Denton and Collin counties.
The Salvation Army of North Texas’s Red Kettle campaign is supported by Energy Transfer. Gifts can be made in person or online and may be tax deductible.
