WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – As the United States braces for the winter months, President Biden laid out details about his administration’s plan to battle COVID-19.
The new protocols revealed Thursday come as the new Omicron South African variant was detected in California.
Biden is among world leaders who implemented a travel ban from eight African countries in order to slow the spread of the virus.
According to the White House, the president’s plan includes vaccine booster shots for all adults, vaccinations to protect kids and to keep schools open, expanding free at-home testing for Americans and tougher public health protocols for international travel.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the tenets of the plan:
- Boosters for All Adults: President Biden will take steps to ensure that the almost 100 million eligible Americans who have yet to get their booster shot, have access to the vaccine immediately.
- Vaccinations to Protect Our Kids and Keep Our School Open: The administration is taking new actions to get kids 5 and older vaccinated to keep the schools open.
- Expand Free At-Home Testing for Americans: First, the more than 150 million Americans with private insurance-who are now able to get tests covered in physician offices, pharmacies and clinics with no cost sharing-will also be able to get at-home tests reimbursed by their insurance.
- Stronger Public Health Protocols for Safe International Travel: The Administration implemented tougher international travel protocols last month including requirements for foreign travelers to be fully vaccinated. Today, the administration will take additional steps.
