WASHINGTON D.C. (WBAP/KLIF News) – There are new COVID-19 vaccine mandates for tens of millions of American employees who work for large companies.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration released new guidelines Thursday for companies with 100 or more employees.
Businesses must ensure workers are fully vaccinated with paid time off to get the shot by January 4th or have employees tested weekly for the virus and wear masks.
OSHA’s order impacts about 84 million workers.
Companies who fail to comply could face a $14,000 fine per violation.
Those who work in nursing homes, hospitals and other facilities who receive money from Medicare or Medicaid are under stricter guidelines.
They will not have the option to be tested weekly and must be vaccinated.
The guidelines, which were drafted under emergency authority, do not detail how OSHA will enforce the rules.
The Biden Administration is already receiving pushback on the recently-released mandates.
More than two dozen Republican state attorneys general have threatened to sue based on the argument that only Congress can implement sweeping mandates under emergency authority.
More than a dozen states have already filed lawsuits over the president’s previous vaccine mandates for federal contractors.
The new rules are the latest push in the Biden Administration’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed more than 740,000 Americans.
