Dallas County Commissioner Escorted out of Meeting after Objecting to Mask Requirement

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas County Commissioner says he won’t wear a mask in court, despite a requirement issued by the county judge.

As COVID cases rise in North Texas, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins opened Tuesday’s Commissioners Court meeting with a mask mandate for the court.

“We do wear masks inside this courtroom,” Jude Jenkins insisted.

Commissioner J.J. Koch refused to the wear his mask, which he later said was in his pocket. He questioned the Judge’s ability to issue the requirement.

“You ask, you don’t tell me,” Koch said. “We must put a stop to Judge Jenkins’ overreach. He’s constantly asking for forgiveness rather than permission.”

Governor Abbott has banned local governments from issuing COVID related mandates. But, Judge Jenkins contends his order is legal based on a Texas Supreme Court opinion stating that courts can take measures to protect against the spread of COVID in their courtrooms.
