Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – While Republicans prevailed in the Fort Worth mayor’s race, incoming Mayor-elect Mattie Parker will have a new liberal-ma
jority city council to work with after two incumbents lost their seats.
In the District 6 race, Jared Williams, a science teacher defeated incumbent Jungus Jordan – the longest serving fort worth council member – by 273 votes. Jordan assumed office in 2005.
According to Ballotopia, ‘Williams earned a bachelor’s degree from Fort Valley State University in 2012, a graduate degree from Texas Christian University in 2014, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in 2019. His career experience includes working as a nonprofit leader and science education.’
The district includes southwest Fort Worth and the new Tarleton State campus.
In District 8, Chris Nettles defeated incumbent Kelly Allen Gray by 303 votes. the district includes a much of East Fort Worth. Gray assumed office in 2012.
Nettles’ bio on Ballotopia says that he “graduated from North Crowley High School in 2006. He went on to study Christian ministries at Dallas Baptist University. His professional experience includes working as assistant court manager to Judge Lisa Woodard for Tarrant County Precinct Eight, as an administrative court clerk for the Tarrant County justice of the peace, as a licensed minister, and as the owner and operator of a childcare center.
Nettles’ experience also includes work for the Fort Worth Housing Authority and service as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Nettles and his wife have four children.”
