DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Former President George W. Bush is highlighting the issue of immigration in a new exhibit inside the Bush Center on the SMU campus.
Through the exhibit, the former President spotlights the journeys of America’s immigrants and the contributions they have made to daily American life. Through 43 powerful four-color portraits personally painted by the President himself, the exhibit is meant to show how America has been strengthened by those who have come here in search of a better life.
“At its core, immigration is a sign of a confident and successful nation,” said President Bush. “It says something about our country that people all around the world are willing to leave their homes and leave their families and risk everything to come to our country. Their talent and hard work and love of freedom have helped us become the leader of the world. Our generation must ensure that America remains a beacon of liberty and the most hopeful society the world has ever known. We must always be proud to welcome people as fellow Americans. Our new immigrants are just what they’ve always been — people willing to risk everything for the dream of freedom.”
The portraits are also featured in the President’s new book, ‘Out of Many, One.’ The public exhibit of the portraits and runs through January 3, 2022 at the George W. Bush Presidential Center.
