North Texas Public Transit Providers Requiring Masks, Regardless of Lifted Mask Order

DENTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Three major transportation entities in North Texas will still require riders to wear face coverings.

Regardless of any lifted mandate, the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA), Trinity Metro and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) are requiring all riders to wear face coverings during their entire trip and when waiting for their vehicle at bus stops and train stations.

There will be plenty of messaging and signage to avoid any confusion.

“At DCTA, we’re committed to protecting the health of our passengers and employees and will continue to maintain the federal mask requirement in an effort to keep our communities safe,” Raymond Suarez, DCTA CEO said.

As supply is available, DCTA will offer a complimentary mask to those who do not have one. Passengers who refuse to wear a proper mask covering will be refused service until they comply. Also, those who violate the federal mask mandate could face civil penalties.

“The health and safety of our customers and our employees are very important to us,” Trinity Metro President and CEO Bob Baulsir said. “We will continue to comply with federal regulations to help keep everyone protected.”

On Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order to lift the mask requirement across the state, effective March 10. Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley announced yesterday that the county’s mask order was lifted immediately.
