Markers Honoring Fallen Officer Unveiled on North Texas Highway

RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF) – A fallen North Texas police officer is being honored along a stretch of local highway.

During a ceremony with Richardson Police on Friday, friends and family of Officer David Sherrard watched the official unveiling of two brown state markers. One is placed on the north end. and the other one the south end. of the Richardson corridor of HWY 75.

State Representative Jeff Leach told the small crowd that Officer Sherrard represents the sacrifices of an entire profession.

“There are cops all over our community, all of our state, all over this community walking into dangerous situations,” Leach emphasized.

Sherrard was shot in February of 2018 when responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex on East Renner Road. He was the first Richardson Officer to be killed in the line of duty.

Officer Sherrard was a 13 year veteran and member of the Richardson Police SWAT Unit.
