NEVADA (WBAP/KLIF) – Students at a Collin County middle school are back to virtual learning just weeks into the school year.

According to Community ISD, five students and three teachers at Edge Middle School have tested positive for coronavirus.

It’s which isn’t a massive outbreak, but per district policy, sending students home is required anytime a significant number of staff members are in close contact with positive cases.

“We’ve had this plan in place since before school started,” Community ISD Contact Tracer, Cooper Welch said.

The students will switch to virtual learning for five days.

“All the students at the middle school have been transitioned to what we call ‘Braves ID’ which is how we run our virtual learning,” Welch said.

According to Welch, 40% of students in the district were already learning from home.
