Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Tarrant County can boast of one of the Lone Star State’s newest cultural districts.
The Texas Arts Commission bestowed the designation on Fort Worth’s Near Southside which joins its counterparts in Dallas’s Deep Ellum and Austin’s Red River District, according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
The distinction, which recognizes popular events like ArtsGoggle, Friday on the Green and more opens the Near Southside up to arts funding.
Near Southside Inc President Mike Brennan told newspaper, “We’re proud that the Near Southside is gaining recognition as a hub for creativity and
growth. This community is filled with dreamers, artists, and risktakers that deserve to be recognized. ”
The Near Southside encompasses “1,400 acres and includes the medical district, the popular South Main and Magnolia corridors. Also being redeveloped is the Evans and Rosedale urban village.
