Denton ISD Student Dead After Found Unconscious During Practice

DENTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Denton Police have confirmed a Denton ISD student has died Thursday morning. The district says 17-year-old Dylan Dorrell was a member of the Denton Guyer High School Cross Country team and he was practicing at the South Lakes Park. Officials say he went to the bathroom and was found unconscious and unresponsive.

Police say witnesses began administering CPR. “Denton Fire/Rescue transported him to a local hospital with CPR still in progress. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” the release said.

The Denton Police Department and Denton ISD are working together to make crisis counselors available for those affected.

Julie Zwahr with Denton ISD said shortly after Dorrell was taken to the hospital they dispatched a team of administrators and counselors to meet with the team. “We are working with them, members of the community and members of the family who unfortunately suffered this tragic loss,” said Zwahr.

Dorrell was a member of the class of 2021.
