The Explosive Growth In Texas Is Putting A Serious Strain On The State’s Water Supply

(WBAP/KLIF) – AUSTIN, TX – Lawmakers in Austin are holding a special meeting this week on plans to boost the state’s water supply. State data indicates that in 2023, Texas lost 158 billion gallons to water main breaks and leaky pipes. The House’s plan leaves more room for repairs while the Senate’s plan prioritizes new supply projects like water treatment plants. Both proposals would begin with an up-front multi-billion dollar investment, and set aside a billion dollars each year for water projects. However, lawmakers have backed off plans to create a new tech-like agency responsible for building a statewide grid of water pipelines.
