(WBAP/KLIF) – DALLAS, TX – Dallas County Commissioners are discussing possible locations for a new county jail and criminal courthouse. It would replace the Lew Sterrett Justice Center which is located on Commerce Street west of Downtown Dallas. Many critics argue that the current facility is aging and outdated, and an advisory committee has recommended building a new one as opposed to renovating the current one. The committee also found a that new jail with 72-hundred beds would cost the county more than $5 billion dollars by 2032. A timeline for construction has not been set.
