(WBAP/KLIF) – IRVING, TX – The Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which is owned by Miriam Adelson, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, wants to develop a property near the old Texas Stadium site, and turn it into a destination resort with hotels, restaurants, and new 15,000 seat arena for the Mavericks, Even though gaming isn’t legalized in the state of Texas, many Irving residents have been both in favor and heavily against the new development. A zoning meeting on Monday night went into 2 AM on Tuesday because several local residents were passionate on this issue, don’t want a casino in their backyard.
On Thursday night, the Irving City Council was scheduled to vote on whether to approve construction on the site. However, before the meeting a representative with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation stated that they were pulling the gaming and the casino aspect out of their proposal . During the meeting, the Irving City Council may vote to approve rezoning of the site without the gaming aspect of it.
