Former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger Denied Parole 6 Years After Botham Jeans Murder

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The family of the man killed by former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger said she has been denied parole.

The now 36-year-old fatally shot Bothem Jean in September 2018 as he was relaxing in his own apartment.

She claimed she mistook his unit for her own and fired the shots because she thought he was an intruder. Her body camera was not on during the tragic incident because she was off duty.

Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019 and is serving her time at a Gatesville facility.

The case sparked national outrage and reignited tensions between police and the African American community.

Ahead of the latest parole consideration, thousands of people signed an online petition protesting her parole including Jean’s family and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

Guyger’s attorneys appealed the conviction but lost the effort two years ago.

She will be eligible for parole in 2026.
