(WBAP/KLIF) – Amid a month-long strike, Boeing is now announcing it will ax 17,000 jobs. This follows a $5 billion loss in the third quarter and a proposed delay on deliveries of its new 777-X jetliner.

CEO Kelly Ortberg sent a message to employees stating, “We reset our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and to a more focused set of priorities. Over the coming months, we are planning to reduce the size of our total workforce by roughly 10 percent. These reductions will include executives, managers and employees.”

Shares of Boeing fell 1.7% in after market trading.
