Classes Delayed at Poteet High School in Mesquite as Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – An investigation into a Mesquite police officer-involved shooting delayed the start of classes at Poteet High School Monday morning.

The incident happened near the intersection of Poteet Drive and North Galloway Avenue.

Investigators said officers responded to a call at a nearby Whataburger around 4 a.m. about a man with a knife threatening employees.

The man left before officers arrived but he called the police to say he was near Poteet High School. Officers found him a few blocks away with a long-gun and exchanged fire with the suspect.

No one was hit and the suspect was arrested at a home on Southwind east of North Galloway Avenue.

In a social media post, Mesquite police stressed the shooting did not involve the high school but classes were pushed back out of an abundance of caution.

Police are asking residents to avoid the area as its still an active scene.
