(WBAP/KLIF) – On Thursday the Texas Supreme Court denied a request by Attorney General Ken Paxton to block the firearms ban by the State fair of Texas. Justice Blacklock filed an opinion concurring in the denial of the motion. Chief Justice Hecht and Justice Young followed suit.
Earlier this month, Paxton sued the State Fair of Texas and the City of Dallas arguing that the gun ban violates state law since Fair Park is owned by the city. Last week, a district judge in Dallas sided with Fair Park and city officials. Paxton then appealed that ruling, which was denied by an appeals court earlier this week.
The state fair’s new policy prohibiting firearms comes one year after a shooting at the state fair’s food court where three people were injured. The State Fair of Texas opens on Friday, and runs through October 20th.
