NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Nonprofits across the Metroplex are hopeful on this year’s for North Texas Giving Day.
Today’s event allows citizens to find a charity of their choice on one website and donate desperately needed funds each year.
The Community Foundation of Texas created North Texas Giving Day 16 years ago and it’s the single largest fundraising day nationwide that directly benefits the region.
“People think you have to have a big bank account to give away money. Well, that’s really not true. We created North Texas Giving Day to make philanthropy available to anyone. People can give as little as a dollar to any nonprofit of their choice,” said the CFT Chief Relationships Officer Calvert Collins-Bratton.
Dallas Pets Alive is a charity that aims to provide resources, education and programs to eliminate the killing of companion animals.
The nonprofit’s Executive Director Leslie Sands said they’re in dire need of help after having doubled their intake this year.
“Therefore our expenses have astronomically rose but its a great think because we’re saving more animals. So, this year North Texas Giving Day is so important every dollar matters,” she said.
Last year, the event raised over $63 million dollars for more than 3,000 nonprofits from 97, 132 donors. The effort has raised more than $566 million dollars since North Texas Giving Day first started.
