Fort Worth ISD School Board Discusses Superintendent’s Future as Parents and Teachers Weigh In

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Tensions were high at the Fort Worth ISD board meeting this week to discuss the performance of Superintendent Doctor Angelica Ramsey.

The board met behind closed doors with attorneys Tuesday night after hearing from parents and teachers about students performance under Doctor Ramsey’s leadership.

She sat silently as she listened to a mixed bag of comments when it came to public’s thoughts on her tenure.

Fort Worth resident Reed Bills told the board she believes Ramsey is being scapegoated.

“You have decided to do something. Specifically to put the blame on the superintendent. That is entirely unfair,” she said.

Former Fort Worth ISD teacher of the year Amanda Inay said she thinks the board should fire Ramsey.

“You lost me to a public charter school and here’s why the leadership under Doctor Ramsey,” she said.

Inay then alleged a practice of retaliation against certain teachers who were vocal.

“When I began to advocate for students, families and teachers, I began to be retaliated against. In September, when families nights were moved to at 4:30 p.m. and I began to advocate for families. I began to be rated low on my T-test performance walk throughs” she said.

The meeting comes a few weeks after Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker presented a letter signed boy 40 community leaders that expressed their disapproval of the students’ STAAR test results.

The letter stated that in Spring 2024, Fort worth ISD students trailed 11 percentage points behind Dallas ISD and 14 points behind Houston ISD when it came to testing.

“When we look at the 24 public school systems serving more than 20,000 students in Texas with a similar student population, Fort Worth ISD is ranked third from the bottom at number 22 out of 24 districts, a 25 parentage point gap from the top of the list,” the letter stated.

After issuing the letter, Mayor Parker confronted board trustees at a meeting and called for change.

“On behalf of our entire city, I am calling for bold unified approach to turn our schools around,” she said.

Dr. Ramsey started in 2022 but the board did not extend her contract beyond its current 2026 expiration date.

The board took no action at the Tuesday night meeting.
