Weatherford High School Homecoming Dance Marred By Arrest, Threat and Evacuation

WEATHERFORD (WBAP/KLIF News ) – There will be extra security at some Weatherford ISD schools this week after chaos ensued at Weatherford High School’s homecoming dance over the weekend.

The building was evacuated and police arrested a student Saturday night.

In a Facebook post, Weatherford police said an off-duty officer working security arrested a 17-year-old student after an altercation with a school administrator.

The student is accused of using a THC vape on the dance floor and allegedly fought the administrator during a confrontation.

Two police officers responded to the altercation and removed the student from the building. The administrator suffered minor injuries.

About five minutes later, officers were told someone at the dance had a gun. After the evacuation, authorities searched the building and the baseball fields based on additional tips that someone had a gun in a bathroom.

No weapons were found. Weatherford police said they want the public to know they take these situations seriously.

“We want you to know that our Officers were at the homecoming dance the entire time and the students’ safety is our utmost priority. Your kids may have lingering fears from tonight, please talk to them about what happened,” said the statement.

School counselors are available to frightened Weatherford High School and the Ninth Grade Center students this week if needed.

Any student that has information relating to the incident is asked to call 817-598-4310
