Cleburne Police Searching for Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Teenage Girl

CLEBURNE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Cleburne Police Department is searching for the suspect in the fatal shooting of an teenage girl over the weekend.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Giovanni Diaz in connection with 18-year-old Kaylee Lanay Merchant’s death.

A doorbell camera captured the gunshots in the 500 block of Poindexter avenue just west of highway 171 around 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement, Cleburne police said they received calls about the gunfire. While en route, officers learned that a woman had been shot and taken to another location.

Authorities found Merchant, who had been a passenger in a white SUV that was captured speeding away on the video, had been shot.

She was taken to the hospital where she died.

Police have not released any further information about Diaz or what led up to the shooting. They believe the killing to be an isolated incident and said there’s no danger to the public.
