Fort Worth Police Officer on Restricted Duty Amid Investigation into Off-Duty Shooting Following Attempted Hit-and-Run

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Fort Worth Police Department stripped an officer of his powers amid an investigation into an off-duty shooting following an attempted hit-and-run this week.

According to a Thursday news release, the officer is on restricted duty and his badge and gun have been taken away.

The department said the officer called 911 around 4:06 p.m. Tuesday and said someone in a red Ford F-150 hit his car on southbound I-35 west at Morningside Drive.

The officer followed the truck and told dispatch the driver was trying to ram his vehicle. He then said he fired several shots into the truck, the news release stated.

The altercation ended on the southbound service road on I-35 West at Bellvue Drive. The driver was shot several times and is expected to recover.

The department has not officially released the officer’s name which it said is standard amid an investigation. WBAP News reached out to Fort Worth police to inquire about the officer’s identity.
