(WBAP/KLIF) PHOENIX, AZ — Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has decided to suspend his campaign for President, however will remain on the ballot in states where he will not be a spoiler, but will withdraw his name in 10 battleground states where he is projected to affect the outcome. Kennedy also threw his support behind Former President Donald Trump as they align on similar issues regarding the war in Ukraine, free speech, and the war on our children. Word of the possible withdrawal of the November election came earlier this week from two sources reported as familiar with his campaign.
Kennedy addressed the nation “about the historical moment and his path forward” on his political website this week. In a podcast this week, Kennedy’s running mate Nicole Shanahan suggested Kennedy was considering tossing his support behind Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, noting if he remained in the race, Kennedy might “draw votes” from him.
For his part, Trump’s pick as the vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, says he would welcome the chance to invite R.F.K. into the Trump campaign circle. But Vance also made clear he doesn’t agree with J.F.K.’s stance “on every issue”; Kennedy’s position on vaccines, for example. However, in his words, “That’s the thing I love about the Republican Party of Donald Trump, is it’s a big tent.. You don’t have to agree with the person on every vaccine to believe that if R.F.K. is saying the Democratic Party has left a lot of old-line Democrats behind, then the Democratic party’s got to do a better job, and maybe a lot of Democratic voters should come to Donald Trump’s Republican Party”.
R.F.K Jr.’s public service began in 1985 with the environmental non profit “Riverkeeper”. He received Time Magazine’s “Hero of the Planet” and the Sartisky Peace Award. R.F.K. is the son of of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy. R.F.K. was a lifelong Democrat until 2023, when he announced he was a candidate for President of the United States.
While at Riverkeeper, he successfully sued dozens of cities and towns to force compliance with the Clean Water Act, winning cases against huge corporations, including General Electric and ExxonMobil mandating cleanup of harmful oil and chemicals. He went on to co-found the Waterkeeper Alliance and served as its President for 21 years. It became the largest nonprofit in the world with the focused goal of clean water, and the group is reported now to protect nearly 3 million miles of waterways and has a million volunteers through 47 countries.
