(WBAP/KLIF) – On Thursday, the Keller ISD school board of trustees unanimously approved several school policy changes addressing the use of a student’s pronouns, gender-specific activities, and overnight school trips.
One change requires teachers to use pronouns consistent with the students birth certificate. Students are also required to receive parental permission to participate in gender-specific activities. Another major policy change prohibits students from rooming with the opposite sex during overnight school trips. The board also revised the complaint process for parents to review what’s being taught in the classroom.
Many of these new policies are sparking pushback from the ACLU of Texas which issued a letter concern against Keller ISD, which stated that these policies would invade student privacy and could potentially violate title nine. A district spokesperson issued a response to the ACLU stating that the revisions are meant to give parents the right to make decisions over their child’s education and upbringing.
